Second wave of good luck? A text message from a friend, telling me that my book, "The Cat Painter", is a finalist in the children's book category of this year's National Book Awards. I'm up against tough competition, and winning is a long shot, but I'm already a-ok with nominee status.

It's probably true that good luck comes in threes. I read my email after I got home from work, and I've just been told that my first royalty payment for the aforementioned book has just been credited to my bank account. It's not much, but it sure does look so much bigger when it's standing next to nothing.
Oh joy. Open up my eager eyes, 'cause I'm Mr. Brightside :)
Palanca shmalanca. I just got news of the 2nd prize winner sa Children's fiction - Dean Alfar. Apparently they've already sent out the couriered invites. Huhuhu. He's a fantastic writer but he only got 2nd? Well, that means I've just lost big time.
ReplyDeleteOy maple leaf, I'm ready for that greasy burger and fries. If you win, that's all you have to feed me.
Hey Beks, don't fret too much on these awards, alam mo naman they are subjective evaluations. Just like expecting everybody to like the same movies. If you win OK, if you don't doesn't mean much because you already have written alot of quality stuff. We all have these dark days that don't seem to end, and everything seems to want to push us down. At least you can channel these down times into writing, and might be something that can be turned into a darker, older-reader type of reading (ala Neil Gaiman or somthing, hehe).
ReplyDeleteBaka mag-shift ka to graphic novels.
Ah, gano'n ba. Well, who knows?
In any case, let's just let things happen. Que sera, sera.
Ako naman, well, I'm not sure I'll even win. Pero, sabi nga ni Jun Lana sa blog niya, kahit hindi kami manalo sa Palanca (as in may award), congrats na rin kasi papunta na kami roon. The fact na sumali kami, e fulfillment of a dream na iyon. Our time will come (daw). Basta, kung sakali man, better luck next year ...
Hey guys, thanks for cheering me up. Yep, better luck next year nalang, or the year after that. :)
